Camshafts

What size stall converter do we recommend with stage 3 ecotec cam package?
2500 - 3000RPM
At which part of the rev range do the cams make the most power?
That depends on the camshafts specifications, however most are designed to increase power towards the mid to top end power range. Depending on the camshaft fitted, rev limits can be increased for even further gains.
What are the power gains with the custom cams to suit Holden VZ VE VF ALLOYTEC LY7 LE0 LLT LFX LF1 LFW 3.01 3.6L V6 (CAM645)
It's not possible for us to put a figure on our custom cams as they are made as per customer's setup and request, however, we have seen our 210/210 cams making 30rwkw.
What are the power gains for CAM607/Cam608?
You would be looking at another 10-15rwkw gain on top of the rockers depending on the stage selected. The shift points would not really change due to the cam, however, this can be adjusted when a tune is provided/developed to suit.
I was wondering If a knock sensor is required to run the Crow cam memcal package?
With these crow cams kits, a knock sensor is not required.
Do you supply cam and chip packages for all 3.8lt Holden V6s?
We supply cam and chip packages for the combinations:
  • Buick 3.8lt engines (VN-VR) - Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3
  • Ecotec V6 engines (VS-VY) - Stage 1, Stage 2

We can supply cams (no chips) for the following combinations:

  • Ecotec V6 (VS-VY) - Stage 3)
  • L67 Supercharged v6 (VS-VY) - Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3
Will a larger cam suit If I'm running high ratio rockers?
These cams won't suit your vehicle if you have higher ratio rockers, We can supply Crow cams to suit engines already fitted with our 1:9:1 and 1:98:1 high ratio rockers.
Are these new cams or regrinds of factory items?
They are brand new billet cams, not remanufactured.
What sort of gains will I see from these Alloytec/SIDI cams?
Around 50rwhp with a tune.
Do you supply cam & chip packages to suit Vt series 1 V8 roller?
We do supply these kits. These kits are more expensive then the much more common flat tappet cams of the earlier 5L.
Can I use the 'Comp Cam Re-Usable Rocker Bolts' on a standard engine with standard/high ratio rockers as replacements for the factory items?
Yes, they can be used and re-used for standard engines, high ratio rockers, and also cam applications.
After the cam is installed - Am I able to drive it without a tune for a bit or should I tune it straight away?
You would want to get it tuned straight away.
Are these variants of the cam grinds for the Alloytec/SIDI or is it just the one aftermarket size?
Unfortunately at this stage we only have the one grind available off the shelf to suit all Alloytec and SIDI engines through we can custom grind them for you at an extra cost.
Cams or CPR6 Manifold?
Ideally, the two items combined will provide maximum power gains but if we had to choose one item we would definitely recommend the cams for the following reasons:
a- The cams are cheaper
b- The cams provide a bigger power increase
c- Since the CPR6 manifold ideally requires a tune for maximum power gains, we find that money would be better invested to tune the cams for a better power per dollar ratio.
Otherwise, for people who prefer bolt-on mods and are interested in an option with less installation complexity involved, then the CPR6 manifold is a good alternative.
If I were to install the stage 2 comp cam with 1:9:1 ratio rockers would i have any problems with lift clearance or would I have to revert to a lower ratio?
Yes. Fitting our 1.9:1 high ratio rockers with the Comp Cams stage 2 cam will create more total valve lift than the standard heads can handle. We would either recommend that you revert back to the standard ratio rockers or alternately you can machine the valve guides and fit the correct valve springs to suit the increased lift.
Note: For example, the standard Ecotec heads can handle a maximum of .515" valve lift before you run into clearance issues with the valve stem seals
What Can I Do To Get More Power Out Of My Supercharged V6?
The most popular and outright favorite modification available for the supercharged V6 is the boost upgrade kit, followed by our 1.9:1 rockers and Cold Air Intake kit. These items come with detailed fitting instructions such that they can be fitted by the common DIY enthusiast. These mods will be further supplemented by other additions such as a larger throttle body, updated memcal, and a free-flowing exhaust system.
If your budget spans a little further, other mods such as Intercooler kits, Cams, and supercharger/LIM porting also represent excellent value for money from a performance perspective.
Will I Need New Push Rods?
No, you don't unless you have a VY model. Unfortunately, Holden got a bit slack with their casting maintenance when they knew the production run was coming to an end. This resulted in excessive casting flashes in the push rod holes which tend to run on the push rods unless new 5/16" pushrods are fitted when using our 1.9 high ratio rockers.
With The Stage 2 COMP Cam, What Other Upgrades Would I Have To Get?
We recommend a set of upgraded valve springs, retainers & double row chain set. You will need a custom tune to suit the Stage 2, which we do not supply.
